PIXEL
The Port Network Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea was one of 15 beneficiaries of the project “Port IOT for environmental leverage – PIXEL”, financed by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme.
The Port Network Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea joined PIXEL after the acquisition of the personnel and properties of the CCIAA Venezia Giulia – Special Agency of the port of Monfalcone which was one of the project partners originally.
The project, which ran from May 2018 to April 2021, had an overall budget of 4,890,222.50 euros.
The PIXEL project aimed to enable a two-way collaboration of ports, multimodal transport agents and cities for optimal use of internal and external resources, sustainable economic growth and environmental impact mitigation, towards the Ports of the Future.
PIXEL leveraged technological enablers to voluntary exchange data among ports and stakeholders, thus ensuring a measurable benefit in this process. The main outcome of this technology was the efficient use of resources in ports, sustainable development and green growth of ports and surrounding cities/regions.
Built on top of the state-of-the art interoperability technologies, PIXEL centralised data from the different information silos where internal and external stakeholders store their operational information.
The PIXEL technological solution, is comprised of:
- a universal (widely applicable to European ports) part - the PIXEL Information Hub and Integrated Dashboard
- a port-specific, to a certain extent, part, being the models, data analysis results and optimisation tools developed for each one of the project ports (Monfalcone, Piraeus, Thessaloniki and Bordeaux).
On the other hand, the PIXEL environmental solution, consist of:
- an environmental metric – the Port Environmental Index (PEI) which integrates the environmental impacts into a single indicator;
- the environmental impact assessment models required as input providers to the PEI.
