SAFEPORT

Logo SAFEPORTSAFEPORT involved, for the first time in a system logic, the ports of the Upper Adriatic, supported by the University of Koper, to identify shared procedures and guidelines on safety and environmental sustainability, key factors for the competitiveness of the port sector.

The project was created to pursue standards that meet the safety and competitiveness needs of the entire North Adriatic port system. Its main objective was to identify shared procedures and guidelines for the prevention and reduction of environmental and industrial risks in the port areas of Ravenna, Chioggia, Venice, Monfalcone, Nogaro, Trieste and Koper. The situation in these ports with regard to these issues was in fact highly inhomogeneous.

In order to foster the integration and communication of the port areas located in the Friuli Venezia Giulia, Veneto and Emilia-Romagna regions and in the Republic of Slovenia, the partnership decided to focus its activities on some common problems:

  • emergencies and major accidents in the port area (industrial risk)
  • reduction of air pollution from maritime traffic and port logistics operations (environmental risk);
  • risks and effects produced by the spillage of dangerous goods or polluting substances at sea;
  • risks arising from the handling of dangerous goods in ports.

As a concrete result, the project has improved territorial integration and communication between the port areas involved and fostered the definition of common strategies and actions for a more efficient management of emergencies and accidents at work as well as for a reduction in air pollution and the marine environment.
