CLEAN BERTH
The Port Network Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea was the lead partner of the CLEAN BERTH project "Cross-border institutional cooperation for ports environmental sustainability and energy efficiency", co-financed by the Interreg V-A Italy-Slovenia Cross-border Cooperation Programme 2014-2020.
Project objective
Port operations and environmental impact. This is an important issue for ports in the cross-border area, which were lacking a common model for environmental planning and energy efficiency, also adopting mitigation measures in an uncoordinated manner, resulting in an uneven outcome in terms of environmental protection.
CLEAN BERTH aimed to:
- Strengthen institutional capacity and cross-border governance on the subject, increasing the competences of the ports in the Programme Area in joint planning of environmental performance through a constant exchange of experiences between partners;
- Harmonise the policies adopted in this field also through the creation of a common cross-border model of environmental sustainability and energy efficiency plan, which was declined and tested by the partners through complementary pilot actions
- Institutionalise permanent cross-border cooperation in this field through the signing of a Joint Protocol and the creation of a permanent platform for data and knowledge sharing.
In this context, the Port Network Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea improved its planning of environmental sustainability and energy efficiency for the Trieste and Monfalcone ports. In particular, concrete pilot actions were carried out that envisaged the installation of a multispectral sensor for the detection of hydrocarbons in the sea on the drones it already owns and of electric vehicle recharging stations. A joint protocol was also signed with the ports of Venice and Koper, which enabled AdSP MAO to learn from their experiences and develop future actions in this area in a coordinated manner.
