NAPA4CORE

Logo NAPA4COREThe Port Network Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea was a beneficiary of the “Improving North Adriatic ports maritime accessibility and hinterland connections to the Core Network (NAPA4CORE)” project, co-financed by the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF).

Project overview:

The project NAPA4CORE was focused on supporting the development of ports of the North Adriatic Ports’ Association (NAPA) as efficient and sustainable entry and exit points for container and Ro-Ro traffics fully integrated with the land infrastructure.

Considering the past growth of the container and Ro-Ro traffic of the NAPA ports, the increased episodes of maritime and land congestions, the pressure and interests expressed by shipping lines for having enlarged port capacities as well as the market potentials of the North Adriatic route, the action contributed to achieve an efficient and competitive transport infrastructure network in the North Adriatic area, supporting the realization of projects of common interests with the view of preparing for expected future transport flows, enhancing interoperability of transport services as well as a more balanced development of the European transport network.

The Action aimed to improve maritime and land accessibility of port of Trieste and Koper in order to enhance Their port’s capacity and port-hinterland connections.

Project objectives

The main objective of the Action was to support the development of the ports of Venice, Trieste and Koper as efficient and sustainable entry and exit points for container and ro-ro traffics, fully integrated with the land infrastructure, in particular linking these Core Network ports to the Core Network:

  • Mediterranean Corridor enhancing freight services towards Western and Eastern European markets.
  • Baltic Adriatic Corridor enhancing freight services towards Central European markets.

Specific objective of the action were:

  • Improve maritime access for container and ro-ro traffics.
  • Improve land infrastructure to support the growth of the container and ro-ro traffic and enable ports’ hinterland connection to the Core Network.
  • Improve maritime and land accessibility of ports of Trieste and Koper situated on the Baltic-Adriatic and Mediterranean Core Network Corridors.

In this framework the activity of the Port of Trieste addressed the first phase of reconstruction of the port area, with the main objective to develop a new logistic platform.
