METRO
The Port Network Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea was a beneficiary of the project “METRO – Maritime Environment-friendly TRanspOrt systems” co-financed by the Italy – Croatia CBC Programme 2014 – 2020 Interreg V – A.
Project Objective
METRO aimed at improving the quality, safety and environmental sustainability of marine and coastal transport services and nodes by promoting multimodality in the Programme area through a synergic collaboration among Universities, companies and public bodies involved in the project.
In particular, new traffic modalities based on the use of vessels using compatible energy sources were developed. In addition to this, partners studied and defined good practices for infrastructure adaptation for energy recharging of vessels in small harbors where stability of electric power supply and distribution grids was variable and partly unstudied.
Within METRO, studies of physical interface between the hybrid ship and the port infrastructure on Trieste area and several analysis were carried out in order to find a future solution to create a charging station in the port.
