ADRIA A
The ADRIA A (Accessibility and Development for the Re-launch of the Inner Adriatic) Project was co-funded by the Italy-Slovenia Cross-border Cooperation Programme 2007-2013. ADRIA A was led by the Central European Initiative through its Executive Secretariat and had 27 partners from the two countries.
The Project lasted from 2010 to 2014 and intended to realise an effective integration of the transport modes (rail, local public transport, rail-air and rail-sea intermodality) on the territory of the Italian-Slovenian metropolitan area in order to make the area more competitive and to realise an efficient, integrated and sustainable transport system.
To this end, the Programme has foreseen the design of the missing links on the railway infrastructure network, both Italian and Slovenian, which will make it possible to realise joint transport services over the entire area. Furthermore, Adria A has defined the road map for the establishment of the European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation (EGTC) between Italy and Slovenia, which constitutes an important legal basis for future cooperation actions in the field of spatial planning and transport.
In particular, the design of the Gorizia-Nova Gorica-Vrtojba line, the electrification project of the Nova Gorica-Sezana line and the design of the railway connection between Trieste and Koper (Koper) have been carried out
ADRIA A has made a decisive contribution to filling a gap in the infrastructure planning of the Upper Adriatic area and to making the prospect of an integrated metropolitan system realistic. Also because of this concreteness, the project received the full support of the European Commission's Transport Directorate and the European Parliament's Transport and Tourism Committee
