URSA MAJOR NEO
The Port Network Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea is the Implementing Entity of the "Ursa Major neo" project, co-funded under the European Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) Programme, which was approved in July 2017 and whose activities will close in December 2023.
The main objective of the project was to integrate the information systems of motorway and port infrastructures in order to better plan the routes between motorways, ordinary roads and port accesses of heavy vehicles, for a careful and constant monitoring of heavy traffic flows.
In particular, PNAEAS focused, with the coordination of Autovie Venete and Autostrade per l'Italia, on the Trieste-Udine-Tarvisio route, which is affected by a substantial flow of heavy vehicles coming from Turkey via an important "Motorway of the Sea" that ends in the port of Trieste. The Port Network Authority worked on its Port Community System - Sinfomar to digitise transit permits and ensure their interoperability with the platforms used by motorway concessionaires, as well as to improve the infrastructure for monitoring access to the port itself.
The partnership, coordinated by the German Federal Ministry of Transport, brought together the main public and private actors from the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland and Italy, covering in particular the Rhine-Alpine and Scandinavian-Mediterranean Corridors.
The total project budget amounted to EUR 150 million, of which EUR 43.5 million was for the Italian partners.
