EALING
The Port Network Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea is one of 22 beneficiaries of the project “European flagship action for cold ironing in ports – EALING”, co-financed by the Connecting Europe Facility and coordinated by Fundación Valenciaport.
The project, running from June 2020 to March 2023, has an overall budget of 6,960,240 euros.
The EALING project aims to develop a feasibility study proposing a concrete approach towards the establishment of a suitable framework for the transition to electrification for 16 EU maritime ports involved in the consortium in different sea basins that decided to adapt to the new regime of alternative fuels utilization in the maritime sector: Mediterranean Sea (Valencia, Barcelona, Ancona, Trieste, Monfalcone, Venice, Piraeus, Rafina and Koper), Black Sea (Constanta, Varna and Burgas), Atlantic Sea (Gijon, Huelva, Leixoes and Azores) and North Sea (North Sea Irish ports via the Irish Maritime Development office).
The project has the following specific objectives:
- Defining a common harmonised and interoperable Legal and Regulatory framework in order to facilitate the implementation phase of OPS infrastructure in the ports of the consortium;
- Ensuring the port to vessel compatibility in the TEN-T Maritime Network, for vessels calling at the ports of the consortium;
- Leading all the necessary technical, financial, legal and environmental studies to prepare and accelerate the effective launch of cold ironing and electric bunkering equipment in the ports.
In particular, besides tender documentation approved by the respective supervisory authorities, a Cost-benefit analysis (CBA) will be carried out each Onshore Power Supply project of the maritime ports involved in the EALING consortium in order to assess the benefits and competiveness of the electrification solution as alternative source of energy, and to enable decision on implementation of OPS equipment and infrastructure in the ports of the consortium.
