TRIESTE RAIL PORT

Upgrade of the Railway Infrastructures of the port of Trieste

Logo TRIESTERAILPORTThe Port Network Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea is sole beneficiary of the “TriesteRailPort – Upgrade of the railway infrastructures of the Port of Trieste” project, co-financed by the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF).

TriesteRailPort is part of a Global Project which aims to upgrade the railway infrastructure of the Port of Trieste, including Campo Marzio, Aquilinia and Scalo Legnami stations, as well as the last mile interconnections among them.

TriesteRailPort aims, in particular, to improve the hinterland accessibility and multimodal connections of the Port of Trieste by upgrading the railway infrastructure of the port’s marshalling yard connecting Piers 5 and 6 (Ro-Ro Transport) and 7 (containers) to Campo Marzio Station and renovating the railway branch lines connecting the FreeEste and ex Aquila refinery areas to the Aquilinia station.

The action, running from 2019 to 2023, concerns both physical and soft infrastructure and will result in:

  • An increased capacity of the port’s marshalling yard up to 18,000 trains;
  • Longer trains up to 750m;
  • Faster shunting operations;
  • Full IT interoperability with the port railway stakeholders.

The EU support for this project entails a CEF grant amounting to 6,540,000 euros and a EIB loan of 39,000,000 euros.
